ULI Philadelphia Panelist Application: North Broad TAP

ULI Philadelphia is recruiting 8-10 members to serve on a two-day Technical Assistance Panel (TAP) that will provide North Broad Renaissance strategies for how low-income communities can generate sustainable resources that help keep their public infrastructure and open spaces well maintained.

In 2016, the North Broad Renaissance released its five-year strategic plan. Based on responses from the community, the strategic plan identified focus areas that will help support the overall quality of life, which included maintenance and landscaping.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve seen just how essential public space is. Community and city officials and thought leaders have all expressed the importance throughout communities.  However, like so many of the inequities, these options do not exist in many low-income Black and Brown communities, particularly those on the North Broad Street corridor.

In 2017, the Broad, Germantown, and Erie Project became a joint effort between City departments and neighborhood organizations. The project's goals are as follow: Make the intersection safer; create new public spaces by adding two new plazas that will reflect a community-driven design; create jobs and support local businesses; and honor the local history.

Questions for Expert Panel
-What are potential policy solutions that could be implemented to address issues of infrastructure equity in Black and Brown communities?
-What’s the return on these investments, and what can we assume if we continue to ignore it?
-When there are barriers to engagement, how do you still deliver a quality project that impacts community?
-How do we redefine engagement during the maintenance of open and green spaces?
-What are the opportunities and benefits for engaging the private sector into being a permanent support for this effort?

Professional expertise needed from panelist:
-Community Economic Development
-Urban Planning
-Placemaking
-Transit Planning
-Community Driven Design/ Engagement
-Green Infrastructure/Maintenance

To be considered for a position as a panelist, please submit completed application by April 6th, 2022.  Once all applications are received, they will be reviewed by the TAPs committee, and applicants will be notified of their selection by mid-April.
